The Bible Correspondence Course currently has over 1,100 students enrolled, with an average of 800 correspondences being received regularly.
The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly affected this project, as we depend on the Post Office to maintain contact with our students. Since the vast majority of these students are inmates in the closed prison system, they also have difficulty in corresponding with us, since they are prevented from receiving visits and assistance from their families.
Therefore, in addition to assisting students with lessons corresponding to the stage of the course they are in, we have been sending messages of encouragement and comfort, evangelistic pamphlets, clarification of doubts regarding biblical texts and their theological application, Christian reading material and Bible studies. We have also been sending stamped envelopes to ensure that the difficulties of the pandemic will not prevent the return of our correspondence.
The project registers about 10 to 20 new students every week, and they receive The Messenger and a calendar for the current year along with the first lesson, which is always a source of great joy and gratitude for them, as they feel gifted and remembered in a special way!
Our challenge is to serve each of these students with wisdom and compassion! As previously mentioned, the pandemic has affected this ministry, but it has not stopped it. It is easy to see how our students are even more thirsty for solid food that comforts, edifies, and transforms them. In this sense, we want to be punctual with personalized messages rather than generalized ones, to reach the human being in his or her individuality and present the gospel that restores life in an integral way.
We aim to serve our students with materials that provide biblical and theological foundations and spiritual strengthening, considering that there are discipleship groups and churches that meet and form leaders even inside the prison. Therefore, we are starting donation campaigns for Bibles, hymnals, books, Bible study primers, Anabaptist history and faith material, etc. In this way, we will contribute to the growth and strengthening of the Kingdom of God amidst the darkness of the national penitentiary system.
